With the inauguration of the first route, Milan Malpensa-Salerno-Amalfi Coast, the Campania airport reopens. This flight is the first of a series of new connections between Salerno airport and the rest of Italy and some European airports. The first plane to take off for Salerno was an easyJet that now connects the two cities three times a week, even in winter. The flight was welcomed by the president of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca. Here are the next departing flights, which will allow millions of passengers to easily reach the Amalfi Coast.
Which companies fly to Salerno
From July 11, in addition to taking the flight easyJetthere is a – season – connection of Volotea soon Nantes, France. EasyJet flights, also seasonal, from Berlin and Geneva will start landing from July 12, while from July 13 flights from London-Gatwick and the Volotea flight from Cagliari will land.
Ryanair operators will start in August: on August 1, in fact, the first flight to Salerno will depart from Bergamo Orio al Serio, on August 2 the one from Turin Caselle will depart, for a total of 16 weekly flights that will remain operational even in winter, while the seasonal flight from London Stansted will be inaugurated on August 4. Finally, Volotea flights to and from Verona and Catania depart from September 2.
Low cost airlines, therefore, at least for the moment, and especially seasonal routes, we will see later. All these new connections will bring tourists from the rest of Europe and will be a convenient alternative to the routes to Naples whose airport is super stressed in the summer season.
The future developments of the Salerno airport
And this is just the beginning. After the inauguration of the airport, there will be the second phase. In the coming years, the Salerno-Amalfi Coast Airport it will be expanded and modernized. The construction of a new terminal built entirely with sustainable materials, with photovoltaic panels that will reduce CO2 emissions and numerous side openings to allow light to enter the building. It may also have five doors to accommodate the numerous arrivals and departures of airlines with short and medium-haul flights.
The developments are part of a much larger project, the Masterplan 2043 which provides a plan of interventions for the new Salerno airport to be implemented from 2043, the year the concession expires. Among the innovations that will arrive in the coming years are planned new parking lots, the new terminal designed by the Neapolitan studio GNOSIS, the extension of the Salerno subway with a station in the immediate vicinity of the airport and the adaptation of the road infrastructure.
