Landwasser World, the most spectacular trip in Grisons

Beyond the mythical Bernina Red Trainthere is another face of Rhaetian Railway which deserves to be discovered and which crosses Alpine valleys, viaducts suspended between mountains, small Grisons villages and landscapes registered as a UNESCO Heritage Site: it is that of Albula Linethe historic railway section that connects St. Moritz to Chur and which, from May 2026, will return as a protagonist with the reopening of Landwasser Worlda great experiential project dedicated to sustainable alpine mobility and slow tourism.

The Albula line is a natural continuation of the journey on the Bernina, easily reachable even from Italy, but even less known than the famous road that crosses the glaciers and alpine passes: it is here, between Filisur, Bergün and Davos Wiesen, that a world of historic trains, forests, agricultural experiences, interactive museums and panoramic terraces overlook viaduct in the form of the most spectacular viaduct in the world.

Landwasser World, emotions along the Rhaetian Railway

Starting from May 2026 and for the entire summer season until October, the Landwasser The world officially reopens with aeven wider offer of immersive activities dedicated to families, train enthusiasts, hikers and curious travelers.

The heart of the project beats around the famous Landwasser Viaductone of the key images of the Rhaetian Railway: a bold 65-meter-high stone structure that seems to rise from the mountain to plunge into a tunnel dug into the rock, an extraordinary work of alpine engineering, which has become a symbol of Grisons and of the entire UNESCO railway network.

Among the most evocative experiences of the new season it stands out Viaduct shuttleswhich allows you to cross the Landwasser at reduced speed and gives passengers a privileged perspective of the alpine landscape: the train moves slowly over the viaduct which allows you to closely observe theimposing structure suspended in the voidthe valleys of the Graubünden and the dense forests that hug the railway line.

The path also leads to a new panoramic stage from which you can reach a terrace overlooking the viaduct, designed to photograph one of the most spectacular points of the Rhaetian Railway.

For families and children, Landwasser World also offers Landwasser Expressa small rubber train that crosses the woods of the stream and leads right under the famous viaduct. The experience also includes a refreshment point and thus turns into a pleasant excursion to be enjoyed without haste, in the silence of the Swiss mountains.

Again, pure emotion is also given by the historic train from 1920which returns to travel daily on the Filisur-Davos route. Embarking means reliving the romantic atmosphere of the first Alpine railway journeys: the historic wagons, the slow pace of the road and the landscape that passes beyond the windows take you to an era when the train represented adventure and wonder.

Experiences among alpine farms, nature and traditions

One of the most interesting aspects of Landwasser World concerns the strong connection with the territory and with the Alpine culture of Grisons.

Among the novelties of the season there are also experiences at the Farsox Ranch and the organic farm Las Sortiwhere you can approach the world of alpine agriculture, observe farm animals and taste real local products.

To truly understand the value of the Rhaetian Railway and the UNESCO line ofwhiteness-Bernina, a fundamental stage is instead Bergün Interactive Railway Museumopen all year round, which illustrates the extraordinary history of the great alpine railway works, built more than a century ago in often extreme conditions and which today have become one of the most important examples of railway engineering in the world.

Models, multimedia installations and interactive trails allow you to discover how viaducts, tunnels and routes were built that even today cross spectacular mountains with incredible harmony.
