He September 28 and 29 they come back European Heritage Daysan initiative born in 1991 with the aim of making all citizens appreciate and understand it common cultural heritage to encourage active participation for its protection and transmission to new generations. Places of culture, such as museums, galleries, archaeological sites and parks, monumental complexes, libraries and archives, are at the center of a program that counts more than 1000 events scattered throughout the national territory.
This year’s theme is “Heritage in motion”which takes up the European slogan “Routes, Networks and Connections”, chosen by the Council of Europe and shared by the countries participating in the event. The choice of the topic is not random, but represents an invitation to reflect on the value of cultural heritage in relation to the paths, communication routes and links that, today and in the past, have made exchanges between peoples and contributed to the formation of our identity.
We at SiViaggia have chosen those that, in our opinion, are the most interesting, from North to South, including the Islands.
Initiatives in Northern Italy
Let’s start by discovering the most interesting dedicated initiatives European Heritage Days starting from Northern Italy and especially from Turin where the Fundazione Torino Musei offers entry symbolic price of 1 euro for the collections of MAO and of Palazzo Madama. GAM’s permanent collections are excluded from the promotion and are closed for reordering until October 14th. The exhibitions installed in these museums fully represent the theme of the day: the MAO forms a bridge between Europe and Asia, while Palazzo Madama hosts Change! dedicated to climate change and the Po, a way of communication and connection between peoples for millennia.
Even the Regional directorate of the museums of Lombardy joins the initiative by organizing various events: from guided tours to Caves of Catullus and Archaeological Museum of Sirmionewhich remains open in the evening at a cost of 1 euro, for visits (also in the evening) to the archaeological area and the antiquarium of the Roman villa in Desenzano of Garda.
The events of Central Italy
The museums, exhibition spaces and places of culture of Bologna and metropolitan area will be held with more than 90 events dedicated to adults and children. Even here it will be possible to visit the most beautiful museums even in the evening, from 8.00pm to 12.00am taking advantage of the discounted rate of 1 euro, such as MAMbo – Modern Art Museum, Morandi Museum, National Art Gallery and Palazzo Poggi Museum.
The Capitoline Superintendence participates by creating events in line with the theme of the European Heritage Days dedicated to walking. Among these, there are submitted the walk through the archeology and stories of the neighborhood organized in Via Tiburtina and around San Giovanni and the itinerary dedicated to the “tribe of dirty feet”, as the children of Villa Mangani were called by a journalist in the forties.
Open museums and events in Southern Italy
On the occasion of these days, the National Archaeological Museum Di Naples dedicates some initiatives to children and young people, who will be able to participate in a workshop that will allow them to delve into mythology through the monuments of ancient Campania. On September 29, however, one will take place Opera Hunt where children between 10 and 13 years old and adults will investigate the relationships between the Greeks and the populations that inhabited southern Italy by following digital clues.
The celebration of knowledge offered by the European Heritage Days is also celebrated in Basilicatawhere the fascinating will be explored in depth walk of Materano and there will be the extraordinary opening of several monuments such as the Tramuntan Castle and the Rock Church of Santa Maria d’Armenis.
Cultural initiatives in the Islands
In SardiniaHowever, very interesting in relation to the topic of travel is the event “Monte d’Accoddi, a stop on the road to Megalithism in Sardinia“: during the guided tour it will be possible to discover the archaeological site and understand how fundamental it was to “be on the move” for prehistoric communities to discover resources, acquire knowledge and choose the ideal places to live permanently. Even the city of Alghero joins the initiative with the extraordinary night opening (until 11pm) of the archaeological museum of the city of MŪSA and the museums of the MACOR coral museum, at the symbolic entrance cost of 1 euro. There are also scheduled guides to the Necropolis of Anghelu Ruju, in the Nuragic Village of Sant’Imbenia and in the historic center.
