When the series came out Pixel 6h Google it was promised that they will receive three years of system updates and five years of security updates. This meant that they would be updated up to and including Android 15.
Google now offers buyers of the Pixel 9 series seven years of system updates and seven years of security updates.
Now, however, the distribution of Android 15 QPR1 Beta1 could indicate an additional time of Android support for at least Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 6a. Google has released Android 15 QPR1 Beta 1, which is the first Beta version for Pixel Feature Drop. The stable version of the QPR1 will probably be the December Feature Drop. The final version of QPR 2 is likely to be released in March 2025 with the stable version of QPR 3 scheduled for June 2025.
The fact that users of the Pixel 6 series were able to install Android 15 QPR1 Beta 1 seems to be a strong indication that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will receive at least one year of system support for Android 16. This has not been announced from Google and is just speculation at this point. However, all three phones in the Pixel 6 series have a Tensor app processor, which means that support can be expanded.
If you want to install Android 15 QPR1 Beta 1 on your Pixel, go to the Android Beta Program website at google.com/android/beta. Once you are on the Android Beta site, you must click on the button that says “See eligible devices”. You will be taken to a page that shows an image of your Pixel model. You will see a button to join the Beta version. Tap on it to join the program and you will have an update to install. QPR Beta builds are more stable than your traditional Android Beta builds.
